We serve a wide variety of iced and frozen drinks throughout the year. All our iced and frozen drinks containing coffee are made with cold-brewed espresso, a mild cold-brewed coffee specifically designed for use in cold drinks. All of our recipe drinks (see Recipe Drinks for a full list) can be made iced (on the rocks) or frozen (blended). Of course, all drinks can be made with regular or decaf coffee.
In addition to our iced and frozen coffee drinks, we also serve a variety of cold coffee alternatives, including fruit smoothies, frozen and iced chai, as well as frozen chocolate and vanilla creme drinks, which are identical to our frozen mochas and vanilla lattes, minus the coffee.
Our espresso blend is called Armando’s Blend, and was created by Armando Escobar, the espresso guru of Crimson Cup, our coffee roaster. It is a blend of five beans from the three major growing regions (Central and South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia). It is roasted to a Viennese level, or slightly darker than a medium roast. This roast level is typical of the espresso blends found in southern Italy.
As important as the quality of our espresso blend is, it is the baristas of River Road Coffeehouse that make our coffee special. What most coffee drinkers do not know is that 90% of how a drink tastes depends on the barista. Here at River Road, our baristas are trained for many hours before they are allowed to make drinks for our customers. This ensures that our customers are served only the finest espresso-based drinks.
